Philippine Atmospheric, Geographical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and National Power Corporation (NPC) conducted a seminar on “Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on Flood Forecasting and Warning System for Agno River Basin and San Roque Dam Operation” in coordination with the LGU Villasis on May 17, Wednesday, at 10:00 AM.
The seminar was conducted to disseminate information, spread awareness and educate the community by tackling the calamities the country’s experiencing; Floods, Typhoon, Tropical Cyclone Warning System, Rainfall Warning System, El Nino and La Nina.
The session was divided into five, lectured by the different officers from PAGASA, NPC and San Roque Power Corporation (SRPC).
The first lecture is on Understanding Hydrometeorological Hazards (Weather Systems Affecting our Country and its Associated Hazards) lectured by the PAGASA Dagupan Synoptic Station Chief Meteorological Officer, Gregorio B. De Vera II.
The second and third lectures focused on flood forecasting and warning system in the Agno River Basin and San Roque Dam wherein they tackled Thunderstorm Warning System, Heavy Rainfall Warning System, the causes of flooding, and the types of flooding. The lectures were given by the PAGASA Agno River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Weather Specialist, Lorenzo T. Diaz and the NPC Weather Specialist II, Virgilio Garcia.
And the final lecture was given by the PAGASA CAD Weather Specialist II, Jorybell A. Masallo.
The seminar was also graced by Mayor Nato and the Guest of Honor, Engr. Fredolina D. Baldonado, the Officer-in-Charge of Northern Luzon-PAGASA Regional Services Division.
It was attended by the PNP- Villasis, Fire Department Officers of Villasis, Punong Basrangays, Barangay Secretaries, and their Barangay Risk Reduction and Management Officer.
