In observance of National Disaster Resilience Month, the Villasis Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) conducted a tree-planting activity at the Material Recovery Facilities site in Sitio Bugkol, Brgy. Capulaan, Villasis, Pangasinan on July 31, 2019 at 8:00 AM.

The said activity was spearheaded by MDRRMC Chairman Mayor Nonato S. Abrenica together with the MDRRMO Martin James Kenneth Q. Sison, the Sangguniang Bayan Members headed by Vice Mayor Cheryll Z. Tan, the LGU Department Heads and municipal employees.

 

The activity was also participated by other groups and institutions such as the PNP, BFP, Barangay Council Of Capulaan, PSDS Dr. Jocelyn R. Mina, PSDS Dr. Belen C. Bautista and School Heads of Villasis District I & II, DRECMNHS headed by Dr. Rowena G. Moreno together with the various Department Heads and SSG Officers, Bishop Martin Fao-ilan and ACCV members, DELTACOM Villa Base, the PGBI Guardians – Pandoyocan Chapter members, JCI Nateng Jaycees, Palm Springs Montessori Center Inc. Faculty and SSC and the RG Community Riders.

 

Also part of the month-long celebration, the MDRRMC conducted symposiums and lectures in all different public and private high schools within the municipality wherein at least 50 students per school attended. The seminars aimed to educate the students for them to be able to disseminate the same information to their relatives, friends and schoolmates especially on the things to do before, during and after calamities.

 

Personnel from various agencies and departments were invited as resource speakers. Representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection lectured about fire suppression, Solid Waste Management Office staff discussed about Solid Waste Segregation, Rural Health Unit staff talked about First Aid and Demonstration about Basic Life Support and the MDRRMO staff informed and gave LIGTAS TIPS before, during and after calamities like typhoon, flood and earthquake.

With these activities, it is expected that a safe, resilient and environmentally sensitive community of Villasinians are well-prepared in the face of future calamities and disasters.
